Q: What is the Junior Sheep Association of Florida? A: The Junior Sheep Association of Florida, or "JSAF," was established in 2017 with the goal of increasing awareness and involvement in Florida's sheep industry among youth and families. The purpose of our organization is to accomplish this through youth activities, educational opportunities and promotion, for sheep producers who are young and young at heart.
Q: How do I or my child participate in the points series? A: In order to participate in the points series, a youth's membership form AND dues payment MUST be received/paid prior to the start of any points-eligible shows that they wish to receive points in the series for, and any shows thereafter. (Ex. A member whose dues were not paid/membership form not received until September 30 would not be eligible to receive points for a show held on September 10, per the JSAF Official Rules, since they were not a member at that time.) Official membership dates are determined based on the submission date of the online membership form and/or dues payment, whichever is later, if not submitted at the same time.
Dues for the 2020-2021 season are $30.00 per youth member, payable online via credit card (strongly recommended) or in-person via cash or check at a points-eligible show. The only way to join and pay prior to the first shows of the season is via the online form and credit card payment. We recommend that if you are able, you join and pay online prior to the first show you attend to ensure that both are received in before the show. If you need to pay dues in person, please reach out to us to make arrangements. There will be NO exceptions to these policies.
In the points series, points awards awarded for a member's placings in showmanship and for their animals, based on the scoring system found on the Points System page, based upon the member's overall placing, if applicable, for showmanship and the animal's placing, number of animals in the class and overall divisional award, if applicable, for the animals. Points are tabulated by the JSAF, and winners in the respective divisions receive awards at our annual end of season banquet.
Q: How are points for the points series calculated? A: A full breakdown of how points for showmanship, classes and divisions are awarded is available on the Points System page. While as of 2020-2021, the JSAF is tabulating points rather than using the points submission form, members can use the Points Tracker to keep track of how many points they and their animals earn at shows.
Q: How can I ensure that I or my child have received the points they have earned? A: Official show results, as collected at the show on a preliminary basis and received from organizers as official, final results, will be posted here on our website on the Show Results page. Please allow adequate time after each show for these to be posted.
For the 2020-2021 season, the JSAF is tabulating points rather than requiring members to submit points at the end of the season via a submission form. Updates on points accumulated will be posted at least two (2) times throughout the season. Members can also use to the Points Tracker to keep track of how many points they and their animals earn at shows.

Q: Is JSAF affiliated with any other sheep, livestock or youth organizations? A: No. The JSAF maintains no official affiliation with any other related associations or youth organizations. We encourage our members to be involved in other agriculture-related youth organizations, such as 4-H groups, FFA chapters and breed associations, however, we do not require any other memberships.
Q: Is the JSAF a non-profit organization? A: Yes. As of May 2018, we are officially a Florida Certified Not for Profit Corporation. You can access a copy of the documentation from the state of Florida at on SunBiz.org.
Q: Where can I find information on how to share a question or concern with the organization? A: Members and those acting on behalf a member may submit grievances to the JSAF Board of Directors by submitting the JSAF Grievance Form and payment of the $50.00 fee. After your information is received, the grievance procedure addressed on the form will be followed to address concerns.
Q: Is the JSAF on social media? What about a newsletter? A: Yes. Be sure to "Like" us on Facebook to keep up-to-date with the latest from us. All members and parents of members, with the email addresses provided at sign up, receive a monthly copy of our email newsletter, but others who are interested can sign up here.
